Peru|Amazon Rainforest
Actually, that was March of last year. Recently, when I flipped through my photo album, I was accidentally pulled back into the depths of the rainforest by a few photos🌳. So I wanted to write something, even if just a few casual lines. The flight from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado takes less than an hour, but it took us to a completely different world. We were greeted by Inkaterra staff, and after transferring to a bus and then a long boat, the phone signal faded away bit by bit until the last little cursor went out📶. I then realized that these three days would be a time of temporary disconnection from the world. Luckily, the hotel rooms were clean enough, and even the daily lunch and dinner were three-course menus, which gave me some comfort in this isolated place🍽️. Our schedule for these three days was fully packed. Early the next morning, we went to Lake Sandoval, breaking the tranquility of the lake at dawn🌅. We explored a trail each in the afternoon and at night, encountering rainforest scorpions and giant spiders🕷️. On the third day, we rowed to Gamitana Creek upstream. This time, it seemed that a primitive tribe might want to make us their lunch—or at least that's what our guide Henry thought. He told us to keep quiet, otherwise we'd all end up here today😱. Although reason told me this was unlikely to be true; in this isolated rainforest, it was really hard to tell what was real and what was illusion—everything seemed possible. On the day we left, when we sailed out of the rainforest by boat, the phone screen lit up again, and WeChat popped up with 99+ unread messages. I began to feel grateful that I had made it through and finally returned to the civilized world📱. But today, more than a year later, looking at the photos from then, I suddenly wanted to buy a plane ticket and fly back here, to make myself disappear from the civilized world for a few days✨. If I get the chance next year, I'll probably go to Manaus in Brazil for a few days and walk along the main stream of the Amazon River. Maybe there, I can cross paths with another group of strangers and wild animals...🦜 #SouthAmerica #Peru #AmazonRainforest #Maldonado #TravelAroundTheWorld #TravelTheGlobe
