Philadelphia's Forsythia Creative French Cuisine: 8.5/10 🥺

🍮I visited Forsythia, a French restaurant in Old City, mainly for their foie gras mousse, but it turned out to be just average while the other dishes were quite good. The house bread was super hard—my friend even cut the roof of her mouth! The butter tasted like it had some red wine in it, giving it a slightly sour flavor. Foie Gras Mousse: I had high expectations (only to be disappointed later). The mousse was quite average. The liveriness of the foie gras completely overshadowed its natural aroma. The accompanying fruit compote was extremely sweet and had a strong spice flavor. It was a letdown in just 0.01 seconds 😭😭 🌟Escargot: These were delicious with a sweet and sour sauce that included almond slices. The texture was great, and they paired well with the house bread. However, the portion was small, and they were served warm, not hot, so they cooled down quickly. 🌟The main course, Wagyu Beef Short Ribs, was fantastic! The sauce was also sweet and sour, and the beef seemed to be braised rather than grilled. It was very tender, and the morel mushrooms were delicately filled, making for a very enjoyable dish. 🍕The Stuffed California Squab was a highlight. It came with a small wing and a leg, and it was incredibly aromatic, reminiscent of eating grilled quail at a street stall back home. The main part was a tender breast, probably around medium-rare, with a small portion of foie gras stuffing (which was just the right amount to avoid being too rich). The side dishes included red cabbage with blackcurrants (very sweet and tangy) and what seemed to be a mushroom-based sauce. #FrenchCuisine #PhillyFood #NearPhiladelphia
