Both of these places have had their new spring flavors out for a while now. I’ve seen a lot of positive reviews online. As someone who’s very picky about ice cream and also a bit of a procrastinator, I’m late to the party, but I still wanted to write something down to record my experience. 💠 Van Leeuwen 🎒 🥭 Mango Sticky Rice ⭐️⭐️✨ The mango and coconut milk flavor is very artificial. There are no glutinous rice grains, and I don’t know how people can say it’s delicious. It was a big disappointment when I tasted it. It’s not even as good as just mixing some mango juice and coconut milk and freezing it with some rice pudding. 🩵 Blue Jasmine Passion Fruit Swirl ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Last year, I tried their Blue Jasmine Tea popsicle at another place, and it had no jasmine flavor at all. It just tasted like blue-colored milk cake. So, I didn’t have high expectations this time, but surprisingly, the jasmine flavor was quite strong. I really like the combination of floral and creamy notes. Although I think the passion fruit jam inside is a bit unnecessary, it doesn’t feel out of place. This is the only seasonal flavor I ended up buying. 🍓 Strawberry Sorbet ⭐️⭐️⭐️ It’s edible, but it’s just a very light strawberry-flavored syrup. I was hoping for some strawberry chunks or strawberry sauce to add more texture, but I was wrong. They don’t have that kind of attention to detail. 🔶 Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams 🔶 🍋 Citrus Glazed Pound Cake ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ I was initially worried that there would be a lot of super sweet pound cake chunks in the ice cream, but fortunately, that wasn’t the case. The grapefruit-flavored ice cream is paired with some not-too-sweet lemon icing, and the balance of flavors is really well done. It was a pleasant surprise. American ice cream usually has a lot of sugar in the lemon flavor, but this one is so refreshing.
