📍 Philadelphia | 2-Day Summer Trip
📍 Philadelphia | 2-Day Summer Trip A compact, fun-filled weekend exploring Philly’s best spots—perfect for summer getaways! Day 1️⃣ 🚌 Morning: Travel from New York to Philadelphia Took a bus from New York’s Chinatown to Philadelphia’s Chinatown—about a 2-hour ride. Super convenient for budget travelers! 🚌 🏨 Accommodation: Home2 Suites By Hilton Philadelphia Convention Center Right across from Reading Terminal Market—super close to the bus station and Chinatown. The hotel includes breakfast (a nice bonus!), but we arrived before check-in time, so we just stored our luggage at the front desk first 🧳. 🍽️ Lunch: Reading Terminal Market – Uncle Gus’ Steaks Tried the classic Philly Cheesesteak—so good! It’s a Philadelphia staple for a reason: juicy meat, melted cheese, and a huge portion (we split one and were full). Total comfort food win 🥩. 🗿 Afternoon: Rodin Museum A small but wonderful museum—right at the entrance is the famous The Thinker sculpture! It has one of the largest collections of Rodin’s works outside Paris, and admission is included with your Philadelphia Museum of Art ticket (great value 🎟️). 🎨 Late Afternoon: Philadelphia Museum of Art Just a short walk from the Rodin Museum. The grand steps out front are the iconic "Rocky Steps" from the movie—we even ran up them like Rocky for fun! 🥊 There are Rocky statues at the top and bottom of the steps, perfect for photos. Inside, the collection is huge—we took our time browsing and stayed until closing. 🚶 Evening: Benjamin Franklin Parkway Stroll Walked back to downtown along this scenic parkway—passed tons of cool spots: Barnes Foundation & The Franklin Institute: We didn’t have time to visit, but they’re top picks if you love art or science. Logan Square: The fountain here is beautiful, and you can see City Hall in the distance 🌊. Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul: (unfortunately) it closes at 5 PM, so we only saw the exterior ⛪. 💖 Night: LOVE Park & Philadelphia City Hall LOVE Park (JFK Plaza): Snapped photos with the famous red "LOVE" sculpture—try shooting from two angles: one with City Hall in the background (you’ll need to flip the photo!) and one with Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Philadelphia City Hall: You can buy tickets to go up to the top (where the William Penn statue is), but we just took photos from the safety island in the middle of the north street—great for capturing the building’s grandeur 🏛️. Day 2️⃣ 🏛️ Morning: Independence Hall No tickets needed if you visit before 10 AM—perfect for early birds! It’s the building on the back of the $100 bill, so we definitely took a photo with a bill 💵. The West Wing next door displays original printed copies of the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, and U.S. Constitution—total history buff heaven 📜. 🛎️ Late Morning: Liberty Bell Right near Independence Hall, no reservation required. After checking out the exhibition hall (which has cool historical context), you’ll see the Liberty Bell—its crack and inscriptions are so iconic. Independence Hall makes a great backdrop for photos here 🇺🇸. 💰 Afternoon: Philadelphia Mint America’s first mint! No reservation needed—just walk in. You can’t take photos inside, but it’s fascinating to see how coins are made. A unique, underrated spot 🪙. 🛤️ Mid-Afternoon: Elfreth's Alley America’s oldest continuously inhabited street—cobblestones, red-brick houses, and such a cozy, historic vibe. We just walked through and took a few photos—super charming, even for a quick stop 🕰️. 📜 Tip: The Constitutional Walking Tour If you love history, look up this tour! It covers 20 nearby historic buildings, and the website has detailed info. You can go at your own pace, but note that some spots need tickets or might be temporarily closed—check ahead! 🍦 Evening: The Franklin Fountain A popular Instagram-worthy ice cream shop. We tried pistachio and rum raisin—both delicious! Creamy, rich, and the rum raisin had huge, plump raisins. Perfect sweet treat 🍨. 🎓 Final Stop: University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) Ended the trip with a walk around UPenn’s campus—soaking up the Ivy League vibe. The green lawns and beautiful buildings made for a calm, nice end to the weekend 🎓. #Philadelphia #PhiladelphiaArea #UPenn #IceCream #BotanicalGarden #UsedBookstore #VinylRecords #PhiladelphiaEats
