Philadelphia | Amazing Happy Hour at a Small Japanese Spot

📍 Double Knot I actually visited this place once before—shortly after moving to Philly, a friend recommended it. But that time, I just ordered a few random things and stayed for a bit. The food was decent, but I thought it was a bit overpriced đŸ€” (though let’s be real, most Japanese restaurants in the US are like that đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™€ïž). Later, I even ranted about it to the friend who suggested it, and he said their happy hour is way better. Recently, I had some free time, so I decided to give the happy hour a try—and turns out, it’s super cost-effective! First off, the happy hour menu is pretty solid. It doesn’t have as many options as the dinner menu, but there are 4-5 choices in each category (like grilled dishes, sushi, small plates). Most items are around $5-$8 each. My dining partner and I ordered about 8 dishes, and it was just over $50 before tip—super reasonable for Japanese food in the US, if you ask me. The food quality is great too—all the dishes we got were good. A special shoutout to the yaki mono (grilled items): the cooking time and seasoning were on point 😁! Their grilled cauliflower was also surprisingly tasty, even though it’s totally not “Japanese” at all hhhh. The sashimi rice bowl was tiny—looked like a big teacup
but it was packed tightly hhhh, probably the equivalent of 3-4 pieces of sushi. It had some bean sprouts on top, which added a nice fresh crunch—unexpectedly refreshing 😂. We also got sushi and agedashi tofu (fried tofu), both delicious. As for drinks? They’re just okay. But at $7 a glass, you can’t really ask for much đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™€ïž. I don’t have high expectations for Japanese food in the US—so “no bad dishes” is already a win! Overall, this spot is solidly good, and if you come during happy hour, it’s totally worth it. #Philadelphia #PhiladelphiaFoodTour #AtmosphericRestaurant #JapaneseCuisine #HiddenGemRestaurant #RestaurantRecommendation #FoodVibe
