Philadelphia Food | Is This the Best Braised Pork Rice in Philly?
đI donât mean to be rude, but this is just the honest opinion of a casual traveler. If you have a different view, just ignore me. A few days ago, I visited Philadelphia with a friend and wanted to try some delicious food. I searched online and found this place with a huge reputationâHo Sai Gai Restaurant , which is supposed to be so good that people drive there just to eat their braised pork rice. So, we decided to give it a try. đAfter we got there, I really felt... Itâs not cheap, and itâs not delicious. In fact, itâs quite bad. I just feel sorry for the people living in Philadelphia who have to eat this. When we walked in, the owner smiled and asked, âHello, can we serve you some green tea?â We said, âSure, thatâs fine.â And then... there was a $2.50 tea fee. đ đWe arrived at around 11:30 a.m., and the restaurant was completely empty. Looking at the menu, the prices were quite highâalmost all the dishes were in the teens to twenties. So, we ordered two servings of braised pork rice. I think it was $16 or $15, I canât remember exactly. đThen... I really donât understand. The rice was Thai long-grain rice, which, to be honest, didnât taste good. The braising sauce was very salty. For someone who doesnât like salty food, I didnât feel any of the âdelicious beyond wordsâ that people mentioned online. đOn the day we went, the rice was undercooked... I saw some people say it was âdistinct grains,â but of course it was distinctâbecause it was undercooked! I really donât know if we just had bad luck that day, or if itâs always like this. I really had to force myself to eat it for my $16. Iâd say this is the worst braised pork rice Iâve ever had. #PhillyLife #BraisedPorkRice #PhillyFood #PhillyExploration #Philadelphia
