Philadelphia Food | Which American BBQ Spot Is Best? 🍖

Here’s a roundup of Philly BBQ joints I’ve tried over the years: 1️⃣ Fette Sau Previously reviewed—still one of my top picks for flavor + atmosphere. The meat has a pronounced smoky flavor, and the quality is solid, especially the ribs. Recently went during happy hour and tried the deviled eggs—hard-boiled eggs topped with a mild mustard-spice blend, surprisingly tasty! The space gets major bonus points—rustic cowboy vibe, spacious, great for groups (I once saw a company hosting a cowboy-themed event here!). 📍 1208 Frankford Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19125 2️⃣ Butcher Bar Close to University City—feels more like a classic American tavern compared to Fette Sau. Since there were only two of us, we skipped the massive “Meat Trough” platter and ordered fried duck wings and ribs. The duck wings were a nice surprise—chewier than chicken, though the sauce was a bit sweet. The ribs were smaller than expected and not fall-off-the-bone tender—not fully satisfied. Might be better with a bigger group for the platter. Their drink menu is extensive, though! 📍 2034 Chestnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19103 3️⃣ Mission BBQ Technically not in Philly—it’s a chain, so no specific address (you’ll find it if you’re meant to 😉). As a chain, it’s cheap and quick. Tried the beef brisket (a bit crumbly but decent) and grilled shrimp (slightly overcooked). The side sauce was delicious though! Their catering looks strong too. Honorable mention: Baby Blue BBQ near University City was once a great budget-friendly spot—unfortunately closed now (maybe outshone by the trendy White Dog next door? 😅). #PhillyFood #AmericanBBQ #BBQLovers #SmokedMeat #PhillyEats #FoodReview #MeatHeaven
