Philly Food | 🍌 Banana Leaf 🍃

đŸ„°Today I went to Banana Leaf and ordered nasi lemak! But my favorite part was the chicken satay. It was incredibly fragrant! As soon as it arrived, I could smell the crispy, roasted aroma. The texture and flavor of the chicken were amazing—slightly sweet, crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside. It’s definitely the best chicken satay I’ve ever had. Five skewers for two people just wasn’t enough! đŸ„°The pickled onions in the nasi lemak were also amazing! They had none of the usual onion spiciness and were very crunchy, which helped cut through the richness. They reminded me of kimchi. Their water spinach was better than what I had in Penang! It wasn’t salty, and the shrimp paste added a perfect touch of umami—everything was just right! đŸ„°The fried kway teow had a great wok hei, but I felt the seasoning was a bit too sweet. However, I guess Southeast Asian stir-fried noodles tend to be on the sweeter side. đŸ„°For the roti, I still think Penang’s version is better. In terms of chewiness, Banana Leaf’s roti was better than Penang’s, but Penang’s ability to be both crispy and chewy is really impressive! In terms of price, Banana Leaf is cheaper. Both restaurants have their own strengths, and I’ll definitely be visiting both again! I’ll just choose based on my mood next time. Hahaha! #Philadelphia #PhillyFood #PhillyEats
