Philly Food Diary š£ļ½Sea Urchin Lover's Second Visit to Sakana Omakase
Craving uni, so I went with a friend for our second visit to Sakana. We both left super satisfiedāagreed this place has the best uni in Philly! The summer menu had some new items. Most impressive was the Oyster Uni Shot š¦ŖāØāa burst of fresh, sweet ocean flavors. Hokkaido oyster + uni + salmon roe, with a touch of yuzu soy sauceārefreshing, layered, and the perfect start. The appetizers kept getting better. I prefer white meat over red, so the third courseā6-day-aged Medai (Red Snapper)āwas my second favorite š„. Firm, subtly sweet, vacuum-aged traditionally, with just a hint of wasabi and salt to elevate the delicate texture. The sushi course was solid overallānothing flashy, but each piece showcased fresh, clean flavors. Even Aji (horse mackerel), which I usually find fishy, was and mild here. Salmon with Foie Gras and Double Toro were as good as everāthe former rich and smooth, the latter melting with fatty richness. Portions are just right to fill you up. Light eaters can ask for less rice in the sushi; big eaters (like me š) can order extra pieces. Plus, having a Chinese owner has its perksāI love uni, and he kept adding more until I was happily satisfied š¤¤. #Uni #Sushi #Omakase #FoodieAdventure #JapaneseCuisine #Sakana #Philly #NorthAmerica
