Because Iβm minoring in Environmental Studies, I get emails from the Geography Department. As an excellent student who checks email every hour π, I signed up ASAP when I spotted a free field trip! π We visited three spots and networked with alumni and professionals in the field: π Urban Ecology Center A non-profit organization focused on community engagement Offers educational programs and free winter sports equipment rentals πΏπ₯Ύ Learned that Milwaukeeβs urban planning is highly segregated β different racial groups often live in separate areas, making it challenging to increase diversity in their outreach. π EUA An interior design and architecture firm π’β¨ Specializes in sustainable and eco-friendly designs π± Employs engineers, architects, and designers working toward greener building solutions. π Havenwoods State Forest Organizes free public activities and educational programs A popular field trip destination for local elementary schools ππ§π¦ The staff emphasized: Networking is key in this competitive field β your next job opportunity might come from someone you meet! π Even though Environmental Studies is just a personal interest (not my career path), this trip was super insightful!
