Portland, Maine | A Relaxing Weekend Getaway to Beat the Heat 🌊

How can you skip traveling during summer vacation? Besides big cities like New York, Philadelphia, Boston, and D.C., why not check out Portland? As a port city, the sea breeze blows gently, so it never gets too hot in summer—making it a perfect short-distance destination for escaping the heat. Day 1: Boston ➪ Portland (Approx. 2 Hours) 12:00 pm: Pick up the rental car (No way we’re getting up early!) 2:00 pm: Lunch 🥪: Bite Into Maine (Try their lobster roll!) 3:00 pm: Check into the hotel 4:30 pm: Head to Peaks Island Navigate to Casco Bay Lines Ferry Terminal to buy a ticket and take the ferry to the island. You can rent bicycles 🚲 or golf carts 🛺 on the island, but a driver’s license is required to operate a golf cart. 7:30 pm: Wander around Downtown while waiting for dinner Highly recommend Gorgeous Gelato 🍧—the pistachio flavor is absolutely amazing! 8:30 pm: Dinner 🦞: Street & Co (The restaurant is small, so it’s best to make a reservation in advance.) Day 2: Portland (Downtown & Lighthouses) 12:30 pm: Lunch 🍝: J’s Oyster (The food is just so-so.) 1:30 pm: Continue wandering around Downtown 3:00 pm: Visit Fort Allen Park 4:00 pm: Ride the mini-train 🚂: Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad The most cost-effective tour—it offers sea views plus commentary, and the whole trip takes about 40 minutes. Be sure to check the schedule on the official website in advance; it doesn’t run every day. 5:00 pm: Lighthouse 1️⃣: Bug Light Park (A cute mini lighthouse) 5:30 pm: Lighthouse 2️⃣: Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse (Before reaching the lighthouse, you’ll walk along a stone-paved path—it’s really interesting!) 6:30 pm: Lighthouse 3️⃣: Portland Head Light 🌟 (The most famous lighthouse in the area!) 8:30 pm: Dinner 🍲: Eventide Oyster Co (Strongly not recommended ❌—It’s been a long time since I had such a disappointing meal. The food was bad and the service was unfriendly.) Day 3: Portland ➪ Boston 10:00 am: Hit the road and end the trip Overall, Portland is a fantastic city for a slow, relaxing trip. Just don’t set your expectations too high for the food 🥲 #Maine #Portland #USRoadTrip #RelaxedTravel #MyOffTheBeatenPathTravelGuide #WeekendGetaway
