Portland, Maine | My Favorite Hidden Gem: Scales Restaurant 🦞
This Thanksgiving, I went with my boyfriend to visit his host family and his high school town 😊✨ We arrived around 5 PM — it was already completely dark 🕶️ — so after a short rest, we headed out to eat! Portland has many trendy restaurants, but my boyfriend especially loves this one. It may not be viral, but who needs hype when the food is this good? Tucked away on a pier along Commercial St, the entrance is easy to miss — just a simple door with a rusted sign that says "Scales." But once you step inside, it’s a whole different world 🏻❤️ The space is spacious, beautifully decorated, lively but not too noisy — perfect for a relaxed yet special meal. 🧡 Recommendations: Appetizer: Garlic Mussels — huge portion and very affordable! Clams & Oysters — a bit pricey, but worth a try! 🦪 Main: Seared Scallops — OMG, so tender! 🤤 Cooked in a creamy sauce with a hint of chili, topped with bacon (not salty at all!) and roasted kale. Amazing layers of flavor! Seafood Stew — I really liked this one too! Loaded with all kinds of seafood — perfect for shellfish lovers. It has a spicy salsa twist 🌶️🍲 Dessert: Frozen Custard = ice cream | Frappé = milkshake (don’t make the same mistake we did 😂) Indian Pudding — pretty unique! Tastes a bit like brown sugar rice cake? There’s supposedly another pudding that’s even better — not sure which one though! The meal for two came to around $180 + tip 💸 You could keep it under $100 if you skip oysters, desserts, and drinks! A bit pricey — but so worth it! 💘 #Portland #MaineEats #ScalesRestaurant #HiddenGems #FoodieDiary
