Portugal | National Tile Museum 🧩🪇🌴
Lisbon is truly one of the best cities in Europe for city walks, with beautiful tiles visible on buildings throughout the streets and alleys. Highly recommended is the National Tile Museum located in the Alfama district, a big surprise awaits you! 🏛️🌟 The National Museum of the Azulejo was established in 1965 and became a national museum in 1980. The museum is located on the site of the former Convent of Madre Deus, which was founded by Queen Leonor in 1509. The museum has undergone various architectural transformations - a 16th-century style cloister, a church adorned with exquisite paintings and tiles, a sacristy featuring Brazilian wooden display cabinets and wooden carving frames, a high choir decorated with gilded wood carvings, an 18th-century Baroque-style Chapel of St. Anthony, and a large number of oil paintings by the painter António de Oliveira Bernardes... It's recommended to visit on a sunny day, after strolling you can relax in the courtyard surrounded by greenery and dappled light, enjoying a cup of tea, very pleasant. ☕🌿 The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It's advised to make a reservation, but you can also get tickets on site 🎫 which might require queuing. #DailyArtShare #Decoration #HomeInspiration #Creation #Tiles #Lisbon #Portugal #Museum #NationalTileMuseum #CulturalHeritage #IberianCulture
