Regensburg: Beyond the Old Town, Don’t Miss the Walhalla Temple

Apart from the Old Town of Regensburg, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, I highly recommend visiting the Walhalla Temple just outside the city! 🏛️✨ This neoclassical building on the banks of the Danube is a masterpiece by court architect Klenze, created two centuries ago. (His major works are in Munich, including Königsplatz and Ludwigstraße—famous for their brilliant spatial design.) 🌟 The temple, modeled after the Parthenon, is made up of 46 towering columns and is perfectly symmetrical. Unlike temples dedicated to mythical gods, this one is actually a Hall of Fame, honoring notable German figures from the past 2,000 years. It features 65 plaques for those without portraits and 130 busts of famous individuals. 🎖️🕊️ Even if you don’t go inside, the exterior is absolutely worth a visit! (Personally, I think the design of the building itself is the true highlight.) You can get here by taking a scenic Danube cruise, or it's also easily accessible by public transport. Definitely a recommended destination with the €49 Deutschland-Ticket! 🚢🚌💶 #Germany #Regensburg #WalhallaTemple #49EuroTicket
