Remember to Look Up at the Brussels Grand Place!
🌟The Brussels Grand Place was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1998. The French writer Victor Hugo once praised it as “the most beautiful square in the world.” 🌟When you come here, make sure not to just focus on taking photos . Look up at the sculptures on the tops of the buildings – they are truly stunning! The Baroque style is perfectly displayed. 🌟Here are a few important buildings to look out for: 🌟The Town Hall with a statue of Saint Michael trampling a dragon on top: It’s the most eye-catching building on the square. The Gothic-style building was constructed in the mid-15th century and is 90 meters tall. 🌟The King’s House: Facing the Town Hall across the square. Built in the 13th century, it was originally a wooden structure and wasn’t converted to the Gothic style until 1874. It has served as a warehouse, a prison for detainees, and is home to the Brussels Museum. Today, it houses more than 300 diverse outfits gifted to the “Manneken Pis” by King Louis XV of France. 🌟The Swan Cafe: Look for the building with the swan pattern on the square, which was once the famous “Swan Cafe.” During his stay in Brussels from 1845 to 1848, Marx frequently visited the Swan Cafe to meet friends, connect with the masses, and carry out revolutionary propaganda activities. It was here that he officially published “The Communist Manifesto” on February 24, 1848. 🌟Now, it has become an ordinary five-story residential building. The BrusselsIxelles Historical Society has placed a small plaque on the exterior wall: “Marx lived here 1846-1848.” #WinterTravelCollection #WintersInSmallTowns #BelgiumTravel #BrusselsTravelGuide #Brussels #BrusselsGrandPlace #MustVisitSpotsInBrussels
