Returning to Montmartre After Ten Years
Ten years ago, when I first visited Paris, I immediately fell in love with Montmartre. This year, before the Olympics, I came again. Unlike the quick glance I had back then, this time I finally had the chance to experience it in depth. š First Stop: Basilique du SacrĆ©-CÅur (Sacred Heart Basilica) š Address: 35 Rue du Chevalier de la Barre, 75018 Paris This snow-white Roman-Byzantine-style basilica stands atop the highest point of Montmartre and is one of Parisā iconic landmarks š. From the square in front of the basilica, you can overlook the stunning cityscape of Parisāwith the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame de Paris, and more all in sight. Itās absolutely perfect for photos š·! š¼ Second Stop: Place du Tertre (Tertre Square) š Address: Place du Tertre, 75018 Paris Tertre Square is a place brimming with artistic vibe. Itās filled with street artists šØ who create portraits or landscapes for visitors. Here, you can sit down and let an artist capture a unique travel memory for you, or wander through the surrounding galleries and art shops to soak up Montmartreās artistic atmosphere. š Third Stop: Halle Saint Pierre (Saint Peter Hall Bookstore) Known as one of Parisā most romantic niche bookstores, it has a high ceiling and mainly sells art books, albums, and thereās a small exhibition hall that hosts regular shows. Plus, thereās a nice cafĆ© inside serving simple but delicious food. The bookstore is located at 2 Rue Ronsard, 75018 Paris on Montmartre. You can enjoy reading while immersing yourself in Montmartreās strong artistic vibe, and even climb the spiral staircase nearby to find the bookstoreās best viewing spot for the surrounding scenery. š Fourth Stop: Mur des Je tāaime (Wall of Love) š Address: Square Jehan Rictus, 75018 Paris Near Abbesses Metro Station, the Wall of Love is made of 612 dark blue rectangular tiles, inscribed with āI love youā in 311 languages and handwritings. Itās a must-visit romantic spot for couples. I went once on my first trip to Paris, but this time it might have been closed for renovation due to the Olympics. š Transport Guide Take Metro Line 2 to Anvers Station, or Line 12 to Abbesses Station. š Montmartre is a charming and romantic place.
