Rhode Island: America’s Smallest State with Big Charm 🌊

Rhode Island holds the title of the smallest state in the U.S., but its size belies its abundant charm! With only one day for a road trip, we visited two of its most delightful spots: Providence (the state capital) and the coastal town of Newport—both compact, exquisitely lovely, and brimming with character. 🚗 Newport: The Iconic Cliff Walk Our first stop in Newport was a must: the Cliff Walk, famously dubbed “America’s Most Scenic Trail”! Spanning 5 kilometers, this path is a seamless blend of natural beauty and historic elegance. As we hiked, we were treated to a constant feast for the eyes: turquoise waves crashing against jagged rocks 🌊, opulent Gilded Age mansions (once summer retreats for tycoons) nestled among palm trees and flower gardens 🏰, and even the scenic campus of Salve Regina University peeking out from the coastal foliage. The warm sun, crisp sea breeze, and the sound of waves in the distance made every step feel magical—this coastline truly lives up to its reputation as one of America’s best! ☕ Providence: Fruit Tarts & Brown University Charm From Newport, we drove to Providence, where our day revolved around two joys: seeking out the city’s famous fruit tarts and exploring Brown University. First, we headed to the beloved local bakery (the one with endless rave reviews!)—and it did not disappoint. We picked up a fresh fruit tart, and with the first bite, we understood the hype: layers of buttery, flaky crust, light, creamy custard, and a top layer of ripe, juicy berries that burst with sweetness 🥧. It was the perfect sweet pick-me-up after our morning hike! Next, we wandered through the campus of Brown University, an Ivy League institution with a surprisingly relaxed vibe. Unlike some stuffy academic campuses, Brown’s grounds feel warm and welcoming: red-brick buildings lined with blooming hydrangeas 🌸, wide lawns where students lounged with books, and historic halls that blend old-world charm with a modern, creative energy 🎓. Even a casual stroll here felt like a peaceful escape—ideal for winding down our busy day of exploring.
