Saint-Louis, Senegal: A Former Capital Full of Stories
A squeezed "5-day holiday" into just 1.5 days—left Dakar Sunday morning, returned Monday afternoon, but managed to uncover the soul of this once-glorious Senegalese capital. 🌉 A bridge connecting two worlds: One side—bustling trade & daily survival. The other—leisurely living, slow-paced joy. Saw many European tourists here too; guess this is another hidden gem for vacations in Senegal! 🚖 Island tour by horse carriage (totally worth it!): Our half-understood but passionate carriage driver spilled stories of: The faded glory of presidential palaces & military barracks Fishing communities near the Mauritanian border 🎣 Hollowed-out relics: old banks, textile workshops, music museums (still standing!), and the quiet port ⚓ ...All now just shells of their former selves. Could almost feel the phantom prosperity—bittersweet. Yet, the island's heart still beats 💙: Kids playing soccer everywhere ⚽ Families gathering at bridge-side cafes at dusk—sipping drinks, laughing, taking photos 📸 Locals chatting joyfully on the streets, radiating simple happiness 🏡 Architecture time capsule: Colonial-era houses in French, Portuguese, Spanish & British styles! Our driver said: "Different nations, different paint jobs!" My favorite? French villas with flower-filled balconies. 🌸 Final thoughts: Yes, the 8-9 hour round-trip drive was exhausting... But so worth it! A perfect escape from Dakar’s chaos into Saint-Louis' pastel-colored tranquility. #Senegal #Travel #SaintLouis ✨
