Salt Lake City Farmer’s Market|Taro Sago + Morel Mushrooms 🍄✨
Having lived in Salt Lake City for over ten years, it’s amazing to see how much more diverse our city has become. Who would’ve thought a decade ago that you could find braised pork rice, beef donburi, and taro sago with real chunks of taro at the Downtown Farmer’s Market! Compared to Ogden, SLC’s downtown market is more vibrant — outdoors at Pioneer Park every Saturday in summer, moving indoors at The Gateway in winter. Here are this summer’s highlights: 🍱 Summer Festival Taiwanese Food This stall was the dark horse of the food truck scene this year — bright red and blue banners giving strong Japanese summer festival vibes. Lots of people stopped by for photos! Order online to skip the line and wait in the shade. Braised Pork Rice: rice was a bit mushy from steaming too long, but the pork flavor was good. Beef Donburi: just okay — not enough onions, veggies seemed random. 🌟 Taro Sago Dessert: pleasantly surprised! Not too sweet, natural flavor, big chunks of taro — delicious! Brown Sugar Boba Milk Tea: too sweet. 🥐 Forty Three Bakery They have a brick-and-mortar store — 📍 67 W 1700 S, Salt Lake City, UT I call it Utah’s best pastry shop and also its most underrated. The shop looks humble, but they sell out fresh batches daily — a true hidden gem! 🍄 Mushroom Stand Sells morels and other rare wild mushrooms. My Cantonese friend waits all year for their stall to buy mushrooms for soups. 🦆 Smoked Duck Fat This stall has been around for years — not sure if they’ll be back this season. They sell whole frozen ducks, duck liver pâté, and their star product: homemade smoked duck fat — high smoke point, perfect for sautéing asparagus. 🎶 Street Performers Harp, violin, African drums, guitar… and one performer who’s been coming for over a decade with an owl! They’ve become a unique part of SLC’s character. #SaltLakeCity #SummerFestival #FoodShare #MyFoodDiary #AmericanFoodie #TaroSago
