San Antonio|A Thousand Flavors of Sichuan 🌶️
We came around dinnertime — not too crowded. Walked in with drinks and the guy at the door didn’t say anything, just let us sit. But the server who took our order pointed out the “No outside drinks” sign and asked us not to bring them next time. So heads up — might depend on who’s working, but they can be strict about it 🥤🚫. This place used to be super delicious — I used to get takeout from here all the time! But lately, the quality has been… unpredictable 🎢. Good or bad? Totally luck of the draw. Dishes I still like (when they’re on point): ✨ Stir-Fried Rice Noodles with Beef (Gan Chao Niu He) When they get it right — noodles are separate, not clumped, beef is tender, bean sprouts fresh, and it has that wok hei (breath of the wok) you just can’t replicate at home 🔥. ✨ Chili Chicken (La Zi Ji) Still my favorite here! Bad days: huge dry overcooked chunks 😬. Good days: perfectly sized, crispy outside, juicy inside, and consistently well-seasoned ✅. ✨ Stir-Fried Pea Shoots / Water Spinach Sometimes the shoots are too tough, but usually they’re fresh and tasty — that restaurant-style flavor I can’t quite nail at home 🥬. They’ve switched to water spinach lately — maybe they realized the shoots weren’t always ideal. ✨ Fish Tofu Pot The tofu steals the show — slightly fried firm tofu soaking up all the savory broth. So comforting 🍲. ✨ Suan Cai Yu (Pickled Fish Soup) Only tried once — the pickled veggies were kinda bland, so I haven’t revisited. But a friend recently said it was delicious, so maybe it’s improved? 🤔 ✨ Dry-Fried String Beans Well-seasoned, crispy, not too oily — solid choice 🌱. Overall: A decent option if you’re nearby — but not worth a special trip from far away. Kind of a hit-or-miss neighborhood Sichuan spot now. 📍 Sichuan Garden 2347 NW Military Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78231 #SanAntonio #SanAntonioFood #SanAntonioTravel #SanAntonioChineseFood
