San Antonio | Sichuan Garden – A Mixed Bag 🌶️😅

Came here for a late lunch – not too busy. We brought our drinks in, and the guy at the door didn’t say anything… but the server politely reminded us that outside drinks aren’t allowed (there’s a sign 🚫🥤). So FYI – better finish your drink before entering! This place used to be super delicious – I ordered takeout here all the time. But lately, it’s been really inconsistent. Some days it’s great, some days… not so much. Eating here now is like playing culinary roulette! 🎲 Here’s what I usually order: ✨ Dry-Fried Beef Ho Fun When it’s good – the noodles are perfectly separated, the beef is tender, and the bean sprouts are fresh. That wok hei is just 🤌! When it’s bad – it’s greasy and clumpy. ✨ Spicy Chongqing Chicken My all-time fave here! Good version: crispy outside, juicy inside, well-seasoned, and just the right size. Bad version: oversized, overfried, dry chunks 🍗😢. ✨ Stir-Fried Pea Shoots Usually fresh and tasty (way better than what I make at home!), but sometimes too tough. Recently they switched to water spinach – probably because the pea shoots weren’t always in season. ✨ Fish & Tofu Pot The tofu steals the show! It’s lightly fried and soaks up all the savory sauce. The fish is just okay. ✨ Sichuan Fish with Pickled Mustard Greens Tried it once – the pickles lacked punch. But a friend said it was great recently… so maybe it’s improved? 🐟 ✨ Dry-Fried String Beans Generally good – crispy and not too oily. A reliable order. 📍 Sichuan Garden 2347 NW Military Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78231 Verdict: ✅ Okay for a casual meal if you’re nearby. ❌ Not worth a special trip from across town. #SanAntonioEats #SichuanFood #ChineseRestaurant #FoodReview #UTSA #TexasEats
