San Francisco Speakeasy Left Door Reopens After Month-Long Closure

Left Door is a not-so-secret speakeasy perched above one of San Francisco’s most popular (and oldest) sports bars. The swanky cocktail bar opened in 2023, featuring an expansive cocktail menu well stocked with martinis and other classics. The bar itself felt like an incredibly chic living room, with cozy rooms and comfortable lounge seating. Later in the evening, the bar was known to host DJs. Now, after two years, the bar closed for a month to revamp its food and drink menu. To do so, they brought on Tabatha Mohn to lead the new menu. Mohn has worked at some of San Francisco’s most iconic bars and restaurants, notably True Laurel and Lazy Bear . True Laurel is a highly awarded bar, often topping national rankings, and Lazy Bear has earned a coveted two Michelin Stars. > “The city gets lost in innovation and we forget about nostalgia and craft,” says Mohn. “This menu is going back in time to craftsmanship. We want people to fall in love with the basics: perfect dilution, perfect temperature, mastered fundamentals.” The new menu still features an expansive selection of martinis, including a classic espresso martini topped with salted mascarpone cream. You can expect other classics like a Daiquiri and Negroni, or a Margarita enhanced with citrus sherbet. You’ll find the new menu is filled with classic drinks with added twists from Mohn, like a special fermented guava or roasted pear. The food menu still features caviar service and oysters, or you can order fried chicken and a hearty prime rib slider for a more substantial meal. During the month-long closure, the restaurant also updated its interior, though you’ll still find it a maximalist treasure trove .
