π Santorini, Greece | A Fairytale Bookstore β¨
π Address: Nomikos Street, Oia, Santorini, Greece β° Operating Hours: Noon - Sunset (times may vary) Atlantis Books, nestled in the charming town of Oia, is a quaint little bookstore with a balcony overlooking the Aegean Sea. Though small in size, the bookstore feels like a magical fairyland, where one can almost expect enchanting spells to happen at any moment. π§ββοΈ Outside the bookstore, there's a sign that reads "Rent A Cat" πΎ, offering feline companionship for guests as they read. The ceiling inside is inscribed with the names of those who have helped manage the bookstore, and the walls are adorned with the timeline of the bookstore's establishment. Here, you can find novels, philosophy books, Greek history, travel guides, and publications by the bookstore itself. Most of the books are in English, with a smaller selection in other languages. πΈ The story began in 2002 when two Cambridge students, Craig and Oliver, vacationed on the romantic island of Santorini. After finishing all the books they brought, they realized there was no bookstore on the island to replenish their "spiritual food." After a few drinks, they got excited and had a crazy dreamβto open their own bookstore in Ia town. "We found a vacant house in Ia, drank some whiskey, signed a lease, found a dog and a cat." "Then we opened a bank account, built some bookshelves, and filled them with books." π If you happen to pass by, please pause your hurried search for scenic spots and take the time to select a book that suits you here.
