Savannah Adventures 🌹|A Anniversary Rose from a Street Artist
The first week of August greeted us with the humid Southern breeze, long-legged spiders on rocking chairs, and a lizard named Gator riding shotgun in our Lyft. 🦎✨ Years ago, I briefly passed through Savannah, and its charm lingered in my heart—colorful little houses, towering oaks draped in Spanish moss, emerald-green boulevards, cobblestone riverside paths, and cars of soon-to-graduate students covered in parking tickets. The tree trunks glowed in the sunset… 🌳🌇 But Savannah in August is scorching—fall would’ve been ideal. On our last day, in the square where Forrest Gump was filmed, we spotted handwoven roses left casually on a bench. Their owner, a wandering artist, returned with a box of fried chicken. 🍗🌹 When I complimented his craft, he handed me one—a perfect coincidence, since it was our wedding anniversary. I accepted it gladly. Getting Around 🚶♂️ The city is tiny—anyone used to NYC’s pace could explore it in a day. The trolley tour is a great option (discount tickets often sold at hotels). On our last day, we stumbled upon SCAD’s free exhibition about how the art school was founded—surprisingly inspiring! 🎨🔥 If your kid dreams of design, SCAD’s story will make you cheer them on. Free exhibits run daily—worth checking out! Where to Stay 🏨 Savannah’s packed with hotels, especially along the river. But construction is everywhere—new ones keep popping up! Foodie Adventures 🍽️ Now, the main event—FOOD! 1️⃣ Leopold’s Ice Cream 🍦 Overhyped. If the line’s too long, skip it—their ice cream is sold all over town (even at the airport). Tastes like standard American ice cream—fine, but not mind-blowing. 2️⃣ Seafood Shack 🦐 Cheap, but mediocre. The shrimp was mushy (not fresh). Hard pass if you care about seafood quality. ❌ 3️⃣ Fine Dining (Southern Style!) 🍷 Husk (Pic 11) – Decent oysters, but the beef was tough (not melt-in-your-mouth). Their shrimp & grits (a local staple) is worth trying. Alligator Soul – Crocodile meat on the menu! 🐊 The wild boar stew was tender but not extraordinary. Must-try: Brunswick Gumbo—a wild mix of crawfish, fried frog legs, pork, okra, and more (tastes like spicy beef chili). Also tried the pork spine & sardine salad—way too salty 💀. #CapturingTheMoment #USATravel #Savannah #SavannahEats ✨
