🌸 Series of the Most Beautiful Japanese Small Towns

As a hot spring travel blogger, I figured I could also share with you the ancient Japanese towns I've visited. Most tourists only know Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. I will continue to post in this ancient town series, providing more ideas for your travels in Japan. Since this is the first post, let's dive into some informative facts. 🏯 Types of Japanese Ancient Towns Based on Function: 1️⃣ Post Towns (ancient post stations) 2️⃣ Castle Towns and Samurai Towns (areas around samurai residences and castles) 3️⃣ Industrial and Agricultural Towns (ancient regions for sericulture, brewing, and crafts) 4️⃣ Shrine and Temple Towns 5️⃣ Merchant Towns (merchants, warehouses, banks) 🏡 Architectural Features: Roofs: Kirizuma, Yotsugashira, Irimoya Windows: Renjigou and Mushikagoshi Hida-Furukawa, Hida 📍 Gifu Prefecture, Hida City 🏠 Castle Town 🚄 Direct access via JR Tokaido Line (Nagoya 3hr, Gero 1.5hr, Toyama 2hr, Takayama 15min) 🍜 Specialties: Hida Beef, Soba Noodles, Okuhida Milk ⛩️ Itinerary Suggestions: Combine this with Takayama, Okuhida Onsen Village, and Shirakawa-go for a 3-day trip. The most beautiful seasons are the autumn leaves and winter snowscapes. 📖 Nestled in the mountains of Gifu Prefecture, the Hida region has long been known for its craftsmen. This castle town is a convergence of Kyoto and Edo cultures, born from the hands of Hida craftsmen. In town, there is an ancient street called "Shirakabe-zura Street," a 15-minute walk from the JR train station. It's less crowded, with quaint buildings and a stream running through it. Surrounding areas include numerous restaurants, traditional candle shops, cultural halls, temples, and souvenir shops. For those who enjoy sake, don't miss the local breweries "Shiramaiku" and "Horai," offering tastings. There's also a wide selection of sake at the sake shops, where you can buy to your heart's content. I've personally tested and found the prices to be reasonable. I really like an anime called "Your Name," and the scenes of the male protagonist coming to Hida's station and restaurant were filmed here! #Japan #JapanTrivia #JapanTravel #AncientTowns #JapaneseAncientTowns #OffTheBeatenPath #JapanNiche #MySecretTravelRoutes
