SF’s Waterfront Park Sunset Dunes Announces A New Round Of Updates

SF’s newest park, Sunset Dunes, opened earlier this year to mixed opinions. Many residents in the Outer Sunset were skeptical of the park’s impact on traffic, while other San Franciscans welcomed the new oceanfront recreational area. As part of the new park’s official opening, updates were made to the **Great Highway,** including a skateboard area, lounge seating, public art, and more. Now, months after the [initial opening](https://secretsanfrancisco.com/great-highway-new-park-opening-date-sf/), the park is getting a second round of updates to continue improving the experience for San Franciscans. The updates include more **clearly defined activity areas** and signage directing people throughout the park. > ‘“As kids head back to school, Sunset Dunes and JFK Promenade are two of the safest, most joyful routes for walking, biking, and rolling,” [said Robin Pam, Executive Director of Streets For All San Francisco](https://sfrecpark.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=2396). “Clearer guidance on where people should walk, bike, or drive will make it easier for everyone to share the space, help kids travel to school more safely, and ensure these parks remain vibrant public spaces where our community can connect and play.” The park will be divided into two areas: west and east. The western road will be a **park area**, and the eastern road will be designated for **multi-use**. The park area will be **family-friendly**, with yoga classes, benches, and community events. The multi-use zone will allow bikes, scooters, runners, and walkers. New signs will be put up to help visitors understand the different zones, and park rangers will be present to answer any questions from visitors. If you haven’t made it out to the new park yet, it’s a great way to enjoy the beach and explore the [Outer Sunset](https://secretsanfrancisco.com/outer-sunset-guide-sf/). While you’re there, we recommend getting seafood at Hook Fish or a glass of wine at Woods Outpost (and check out their back patio with a fire pit).
