Listen, when I say this place is fire? Trust me because I really don't care for seafood. The first time I had fish tacos was about 8 years ago in San Diego. Those tacos were AMAZING! And then I never craved fish tacos again until I was going through old photos. So I took to Yelp and this gem comes up. Their entire menu looked great so a couple of my friends and I ordered: Fish Tacos, Crab Cakes, and Fish & Chips. They also ordered the ceviche style dish but I didn't try it so I can't comment on it other than it looked good too.
The Fish Tacos are a 10/10. At first I thought, "Huh...this is a bit pricey for 2 tacos. I don't think I'll be full so let me order another dish as well."
Read moreI stumbled upon Hook Fish while perusing social media. A few IG reels with some Hook Fish eats showed up on my feed. I thought lets give it a shot, since we're headed to the city anyways, more specifically to the Dutch Windmill area of Golden Gate Park.
We placed our order at Hook Fish around 1:15 PM on a Sunday afternoon. Nothing elaborate or excessive. We were told to expect a 40 minute wait! Well...it was a bit arduous to back out now, considering we parked three blocks away and walked about 10 minutes, then waited another 10 minutes in line to order. Speaking off...Hook Fish is basically in the middle of the neighborhood, so parking it very challenging. The venue is tiny, no room inside to sit down, it does have an open kitchen where you can see your feed being made. There is a small restroom inside and there is some compact outdoor seating right outside the venue.
#HookFish: ~ Fish and Chips - 4/5 Your standard Fish and Chips with seasoned fries. Beer battered with housemade tartar sauce. Good, but not amazing or to die for...
~ Tacos - 4/5 Good Fish Tacos with plenty of things going on... -`Avocado, pico de gallo, pickled slaw, spicy aioli in housemade corn tortillas (order of 2)
~ HABAÑERO CARROT - 5/5 It's all about the Sauce!! This stuff is brilliant! Not too Spicy with a very unique flavor profile. DELISH!!
Hook Fish is good, just not not worth a 40 minute to hour plus wait... There are plenty of similar options available.
I'd stop by again if the wait wasn't terrible, but I don't fell like missed out on anything if I didn't make it out to...
Read moreGreat spot for seafood! We had four adults in our party; Hook Fish Co. is a walk-up restaurant with outdoor seating only. The seating is quaint and the road was not busy so it was pleasant. Highly recommend the fish and chips, fish was flaky and light with crispy batter similar to what you would get in Ireland or England, the fries seemed to be double fried and have a great seasoning; malt vinegar is available and a perfect accompaniment to both fish and chips. Also recommend the shrimp ceviche was tasty and unique with salmon chunks and pineapple. Grilled fish tacos were flavorful with many ingredients that blended well together. Smoked fish salad was good but the other dishes we had were preferred. They have a good selection of beer and wine. Prices are reasonable for most of the dishes since they provide decent portions for the price, only exception was the fish tacos, but it’s the catch of the day, so probably an acceptable price for fresh fish, which was delicious. Adding clarity to the service and atmosphere ratings, it’s walk up self service and the team does a great job with service, but in case someone was expecting full service, then this isn’t an option, which worked fine for our party. As for the atmosphere, I only saw outdoor seating, which is probably going to be good 90% of the time since the SF weather is...
