Six Days in Maine · Portland 🍁🌊
I carved out a week for myself and drove to Maine. My original goal was to pilgrimage to Acadia National Park — the only one of its kind on the East Coast (aka see some trees, step on grass, spot birds 🐦). But I soon realized that it’s not just national parks that can make you slow down and breathe. The first surprise came from Portland. This city has a small population of just around 300,000. Summers are short, winters are long — perfect for a summer getaway 🏖️, but not ideal for most people to settle long-term. I didn’t plan any meals in advance and decided to go with the flow. Surprisingly, almost every restaurant I tried could rival those in New York — not just in food quality, but also in ambiance, creativity, presentation, and ingredient focus (and yes, the prices too lol 😅). I’d give them a solid 8/10. What’s more, thanks to its ties with Europe since the 16th century, the architecture in Portland’s Old Port is incredibly charming 🏛️. With its hilly streets, wandering around feels like strolling through the alleys of Quebec.
