š Sinharaja Forest Reserve, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988, is a key conservation area in Sri Lanka and one of the country's biodiversity hotspots, harboring a unique treasure trove of flora and fauna. š¦ Sinharaja Forest has documented over 154 species of birds, making it home to 95% of Sri Lanka's endemic bird species. It is the only place in the world where one can observe 26 species of Sri Lanka's endemic birds, including the Sri Lanka Swallow, Scaly Thrush, Forest Pigeon, Dull Blue Flycatcher, Yellow-eared Bulbul, Sri Lanka Hanging Parrot, Layard's Parakeet, Sri Lanka Blue Magpie, Sri Lanka Myna, Sri Lanka Hanging Parrot, Sri Lanka Grey Hornbill, Brown-capped Laughingthrush, Layard's Parakeet, Streak-winged Oriole, Brown-capped Babbler, Sri Lanka Hill Myna, Red-faced Malkoha, Legge's Flowerpecker, Orange-billed Babbler, and the Common Sandpiper. š Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary Kalametiya is a particularly rich park in biodiversity, located on the southeast coast of Hambantota in Sri Lanka, stretching from Hambantota to Tangalle. It is a coastal strip that, together with Rekawa and Ussangoda, forms the "Rukha" region, filled with bays, small bays, lagoons, rocky outcrops, and sandy beaches. š¦ The Kalametiya wetlands have recorded about 150 species of birds. Within the sanctuary, one can spot pelicans, herons, egrets, and open-billed storks, along with a range of migratory birds, including Gadwall, Pintails, Redshanks, Sandpipers, and Snipes. Kannahamodara is an excellent location for birdwatching and nature photography. Boat trips on the lagoon offer close encounters with many bird species. š Knuckles Forest Reserve The Knuckles Forest Reserve, part of the Knuckles Mountain Range in central Sri Lanka, spans the Kandy and Matale districts. At an altitude of about 1500 meters, Kirigalpotta, Gombaniya, Knuckles, Koboneelagala, and Dotulugala are all components of the Knuckles Mountains. š¦ The reserve is home to 128 species of birds, including 17 endemic species such as the Black Eagle, Sri Lanka Woodpecker, Australian King Parrot, White Egret, Grey Heron, Bulbul, Babbler, Warbler, Kingfisher, Sri Lanka Swallow, Niltava, Yellow-fronted Barbet, Sri Lanka Hanging Parrot, Sri Lanka White-eye, Brahminy Kite, Yellow-eared Bulbul, White-throated Kingfisher, and Dull Blue Flycatcher.
