Sri lanka trip diary--city of Anuradhapura
⭐ The northern part of Sri Lanka is generally less frequented by tourists, and Chinese visitors are even rarer. But for those interested in ancient ruins, this is a must-visit! ⭐ Due to time constraints, we only visited the sacred city of Anuradhapura, also known as the Western Ancient City. The entrance fee is $25, or it can be paid in rupees based on the daily exchange rate. The ruins of the Western Ancient City are scattered over an area of about 3 square kilometers. We rented a car, which made it very convenient. If you're coming alone, it's recommended to hire a tuk-tuk for the visit. ⭐ This city is the oldest in Sri Lanka, with a history of over 1500 years of splendor. It is the location of Sri Lanka's earliest kingdom and one of the eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the country. ⭐ In the 3rd century BC, Emperor Ashoka sent his daughter, Sanghamitta, who brought a branch from the Bodhi tree under which Siddhartha Gautama had attained enlightenment. This branch was planted in a monastery, leading to the establishment of the sacred city of Anuradhapura, which thrived until it was abandoned in 993 AD due to foreign invasion. ⭐ Today, apart from a few tourists, many local residents come to worship here. According to local customs, they visit barefoot, and visitors are also not allowed to wear shoes. The hot ground is quite suitable for those who have a pair of socks. #Anuradhapura#Anuradhapura Moonstone#Sri lanka # trip diary#travel guide#Sri lanka trip
