The Archaeological World of the Childhood--Anuradhapura

👉🏻 First, head to the center of the city—the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, which is the oldest temple. Pilgrims still visit this site to this day. Then proceed to the famous Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, a historical tree said to be over 2000 years old, grown from a branch of the Bodhi tree under which Buddha gained enlightenment after meditating for seven days and seven nights. 👉🏻 Next, visit the nearby Brahmanical Palace ruins, also known as the Brazen Palace, which was a nine-story building with 1600 rooms. This palace was once adorned with a vast amount of gold and jewels, but now only remnants remain, a sight that evokes a sense of melancholy. 👉🏻 Then, visit the city's stupas. Start with the Thuparama Dagoba, which was built in the 3rd century BCE and is the first stupa in Sri Lanka, housing Buddha's clavicle relics. Pray in front of the pagoda, 👉🏻 Finally, head to the renowned Ruwanwelisaya Dagoba, which was once destroyed by Indian invaders. Although its height is now only half of what it once was after restoration, the majestic white stupa still impresses every visitor with its solemnity. ❤️ Tips: 📍 There are not many food options within the city; restaurants are mainly located on the main streets, and most guesthouses are in the new city, about 2 km away from the ancient city. 📍 It is recommended to choose accommodation near Sigiriya Rock, which is about a 1-hour drive from here. After visiting, you can continue southward towards Kandy. #Childhood#Anuradhapura#Temple of the Tooth#SriLanka #SriLankaTravelGuide #SriLankaGroupTour #SriLankaTourism#trip diary#travel guide
