Staying at a Boutique Hotel That Redefined My Travel Standards 🏛️

Boutique hotels are truly so much more beautiful than Marriott! ✨ When traveling, I always seek out uniquely designed boutique stays. This time in New Orleans, I originally planned to book a Marriott for points—but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it… 😅 Finally, we discovered Maison de la Luz under the Ace Hotel brand—Ace's second design-led hotel concept. The style is the most distinctive I’ve ever experienced—perfectly capturing New Orleans’ mysterious, jazz-filled vibe 🎷. You’ll find ancient scripts, snakes, animal motifs 🐍, and a Mediterranean-inspired dining room. Even the wavy patterns on the tables match the tablecloths! The wall paintings are full of character, and the room’s tile floors and rugs are thoughtfully coordinated—even the bathroom sink stands on animal-shaped feet 🦌. We visited in mid-June during hurricane season 🌧️, so it rained daily. We ended up cozying up inside the hotel most of the time—but it was worth it! Complimentary coffee, tea, and drinks were available morning and night in the lobby ☕🍸. There was even a self-service cocktail area where guests could mix their own drinks! 🍹 The hotel is housed in a six-story stone building dating back to 1907—once an annex to the old City Hall—located right across from Ace Hotel’s New Orleans location. Your key card also grants access to Ace Hotel’s gym and pool! 💪🏊♀️ After our stay, Maison de la Luz was no more—it rebranded as Maison Métier during our visit. Not sure if it changed ownership. The only downside? Service in boutique hotels isn’t quite at Marriott or Four Seasons level—no turndown service, for example. But the charm more than makes up for it! 💫 Have you ever stayed in a boutique hotel that completely changed how you travel? Or have a favorite design-focused hotel?
