Strolling Through the Park | "Floating Oasis" Operaparken

Cobe's latest masterpiece, Operaparken, is truly a "floating oasis in the heart of the city, far from the hustle and bustle." 🌿✨ Despite its recent completion, the lush groundcover and flower borders create a picturesque setting that frames the majestic opera house, the Frederik's Church across the water, and the Royal Theatre. It's a beautiful dialogue between nature and architecture, a conversation between the modern and the historical. 🏛️🌳 At the heart of the park lies a bermed building. The first floor houses a cozy café with curved glass details that are both warm and inviting, reflecting the outdoor garden and the seating area. The seamless connection between indoors and outdoors is truly delightful. The central spiral staircase, wrapped around a greenhouse garden, pierces through to the underground parking lot three levels down. People love to wander up and down this tropical rainforest that connects three levels of space. After all, tropical plants are quite rare in Nordic public spaces. The details where the staircase structure meets the railing are particularly eye-catching. (I guess I'm just a bit too obsessed with my profession, but maintaining this microclimate must be quite challenging. Some ferns have a few slightly scorched leaves, but it doesn't detract from the overall beauty.) 🌿🚶‍♂️ The rooftop extends to a promenade bridge next to the opera house, like a tongue reaching out and gently touching the opposite shore. The double-layered walking paths inside and outside the bridge create a unique sense of fun. 🌉 There's a big difference between looking at the plans and photos online and actually experiencing the space in person. The winding, curvilinear pathways are like a small maze that calms you down. 🌀 The stepping stones on the slopes are tilted in a charmingly rustic way. Kids dart in and out among them. Falling fruits and red berries attract the attention of birds. The layers and colors of the plants echo the wooden lamp posts, the rusted steel edges, the reddish-brown tactile paving, and the rust-red bollards. The materials are simple, clean, and harmonious with each other. Sometimes, I think the design elements in a landscape can be like an opera or symphony, working together in harmony and resonance. 🎶🌳 #Copenhagen #DanishDesign #LandscapeDesignCase #CobeArchitects
