Summer in San Antonio
San Antonio is like a smaller, Texan version of Venice — complete with canals, charm, and plenty of heat. 😅 👮♂️ The building behind the police is The Alamo. In 1835, over 100 farmers, led by lawyer William Travis, held off the Mexican army here. They fought fiercely for 12 days against thousands of soldiers — no one surrendered. Texans see this place as a spiritual birthplace. Admission is free. 🏛️ 🍖 The only restaurant worth mentioning is Pinkerton’s Barbecue — absolutely delicious! Everywhere else? Let’s just say they use salt by the pound. 😂 The portion in the photo is for three people… and the guy next to us ate even more by himself. 🥞 This morning we waited 60 minutes at a trendy pancake spot. It was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives as “the world’s best.” Well… it’s just pancakes. Not bad, but not life-changing. ⛪ We also visited Mission San Jose. Pretty rough and basic — not exactly breathtaking. Baroque style with a ball on top 🏛️⚽. Hot in summer, cold in winter. It got me thinking about Spanish names: José, García, Alfonso, Fernández, Francisco, Enzo, Juan… all dudes. 😄 🕳️ Then we explored the Natural Bridge Caverns. Really impressive! Though if you live in a cave, maybe it’s no big deal. 🐎 We also took a horse carriage ride — beautiful horses, stylish carriage. 🚐💨 🍖 Before leaving, we returned to Pinkerton’s for their heartiest dish. I plan to re-read How the Steel Was Tempered when I get home… and continue living my best unshakable life. 💪 ❤️ But whether I’m tough or not — San Antonio remains there, unchanged, unbothered. #SanAntonio #TravelTexas #FamilyTravel #USATrips #SummerTravel #TravelWithKids
