Sweden | Stockholm + Kiruna + Abisko
I visited Sweden during the Christmas holidays at the end of last year—let me write a guide before the memories fade! 🚄 Transportation ✨ After landing, take the Arlanda Express (Airport Express). It takes about 20 minutes to reach the city center, and tickets cost 165 SEK per person for travelers aged 8–25. ✨ We got around Stockholm mostly on foot. We stayed in a hotel near T-Centralen (Central Station), so it was convenient to go everywhere—whether to the Old Town or other attractions. ✨ If you want to visit Stockholm’s subway stations (famous for art), you need a subway ticket. We didn’t know better and bought a 3-day pass, which was a bad deal. A 1-day pass is recommended—you can check off all subway spots in one day. ✨ We took a train to Abisko. If you’re not in a hurry, give it a try! Spending the night on the train, enjoying the scenery, and eating instant noodles is a rare experience. ✨ Train tickets can be booked directly on the SJ website (no registration required). A 3-person compartment for a one-way trip costs approximately 1,248 SEK. 🪐 About the Northern Lights We originally planned to see the Northern Lights in Abisko, but we had bad luck—only extremely faint auroras that were invisible to the naked eye. App Recommendation: Download the Aurora app. It provides aurora forecasts, though it can’t guarantee you’ll see them! Pro Tip: Dress extremely warmly for aurora viewing—otherwise, you won’t be able to withstand the cold. 🧩 Useful Tips ✨ In Kiruna, you can take dog sledding (around 2,000 RMB per person) or snowmobiling. Book in advance—otherwise, many activities will be fully booked. ✨ Beyond aurora viewing, Abisko’s biggest highlight is Abisko National Park. Its natural scenery is stunning (it’s always my favorite!). I’ve heard it’s also charming in summer. ✨ I loved Stockholm’s Old Town—you can wander around for hours without getting bored. Unfortunately, many shops were closed during Christmas, but even just looking at the shop windows was fascinating! ✨ Personally, I don’t think Stockholm’s subway stations are that interesting as “attractions” (nice as they are, they’re still just subway stations). But if you love checking in, here are my recommendations: 🟥 Red Line: Stadion (Rainbow Station), Universitetet (Emergency Exit Station), Mörbycentrum (Marshmallow Station) 🟦 Blue Line: T-Centralen (Blue Leaf Station), Solna Centrum (Red Forest Station) As someone from southern China, I’m obsessed with snow. Even though I hate the cold, I couldn’t help but get excited—having snowball fights and building snowmen ☃️! Missing the Northern Lights was my biggest regret, but trips always have unexpected twists. I’m sure I’ll get another chance next time! #NorthernEurope #SwedenTravel #HotelRecommendation #IceHotel #KirunaSwedenIceHotelCheckIn
