Sweet Sea Urchin Rice + Lobster Sashimi on an Unassuming LA Street 🍣
A hidden gem of a Korean-Japanese fusion restaurant in Walnut, Mansun Sushi, feels quite secluded despite being on a main road (with a parking lot right beside it). As soon as you walk in, you’re greeted by the warmth of the owner, who, despite her limited English, personally welcomes every table with a mix of words and gestures. She even gives out little gifts to guests! The restaurant has two large private dining rooms, perfect for family gatherings or friend get-togethers. She mentioned the restaurant has been running for twenty years – a testament to its quality and unique charm! 🌟 Let’s talk about their signature sea urchin rice: The sea urchin here is freshly delivered from Santa Barbara daily and prepared on-site, which is why it takes a bit longer than other dishes. The warm rice pairs perfectly with the sweet, slightly salty sea urchin. Add a touch of soy sauce and mix it up – you’ll find yourself finishing it in no time! The medium-sized sea urchin rice is only $29.99 – a very reasonable price! 🍣 Seafood Platter: The $70 luxury platter includes lobster sashimi, a variety of fresh sashimi, and an abundance of side dishes like fried calamari rings, fried oysters, and pancakes. The variety is impressive, and the table was filled to the brim – so much so that we couldn’t fit everything! The lobster and sashimi were incredibly fresh and tender – I absolutely loved it! 🦞 The lobster was even used to make a soup! The Miso soup, with its seaweed, tofu, and fresh lobster, was simply amazing – so flavorful and comforting! I couldn’t get enough of it. 🥢 Grilled Mussels: Four pieces for just over six dollars, these mussels with a rich mayonnaise sauce, fresh mussels, and fish roe are a classic crowd-pleaser – loved by everyone! The restaurant also offers grilled fish, fried chicken nuggets, udon noodles, and pan-fried dumplings. 🍔 Overall, the restaurant is authentic, fresh, unique, and great value for money. The atmosphere is incredibly warm and inviting – it’s not a luxurious place, even a bit worn-out, but there’s something inexplicably charming and cozy about it. 🏠 #SeaUrchin #JapaneseCuisine #WalnutDelights #LosAngelesFood #RolandJapanese #SeafoodLovers #LASeafood #WalnutLife #StreetToShoreEats
