Texas | The Five Meals I Ate in San Antonio

1️⃣ Boudro’s On the Riverwalk The highlights here are the tableside guacamole, pear margarita, and the riverside view 🥑🌊. For my main, I ordered fish—decent but not outstanding. The real draw is watching the guac being freshly made. The margarita was a pre-made slushy (aka a colorful boozy ice drink 🍹). With tip, my meal came close to $100. Was it worth it? Not really... but compared to the next place, it was a tearful delight 😅. 2️⃣ Bubba Gump Shrimp This spot specializes in shrimp and seafood. We shared fried calamari and a shrimp po’ boy. Let me just say… it takes skill to make fried calamari taste that bad 🦑🚫. The batter was completely detached from the squid, with zero flavor—no salt, no spice, no seafood essence. My colleague nearly had to drown it in hot sauce. The po’ boy was equally bland. We immediately swore off eating on the Riverwalk for convenience 😤. 3️⃣ Tong’s Thai Available on UberEats 🛵, this was a lifesaver for my Chinese-food-craving stomach while traveling. Authentic Thai flavors—just don’t choose “Thai spicy” unless you’re ready to sweat 🌶️🔥! 4️⃣ La Panaderia A Mexican-style bakery right under our hotel with a line out the door every day 🥐☕. Open 7 AM–3 PM, they serve all-day brunch, pastries, and coffee. On the third morning, I finally tried it: a roasted pork and pineapple sandwich—so juicy, like a taco in sandwich form! 🍍🥪 A must for pineapple lovers. Their pastries were also amazing—the palmier stayed crispy even after two nights! Can you believe three pastries, a coffee, a salad, and a sandwich plus tip came to just $30?! 😱💰 5️⃣ Pinkerton’s BBQ You can’t visit Texas without trying real Texas BBQ! 🍖 I randomly picked this downtown spot (I was skeptical since great BBQ is often in the middle of nowhere). But wow—it was incredible! The pork ribs fell right off the bone, perfectly seasoned with rich sauce. The beef brisket was tender and juicy—paired with pickles and bread, you can make your own sandwich right there! For a side, I got potato salad 🥔, fresh and tangy. I regret not ordering the beef ribs or smoked chicken since I was dining solo 😔. They serve cafeteria-style: you choose your meat by weight (brisket by the slice, ribs by the piece), pick a side, and get complimentary bread, pickles, and onions. Super solo-diner friendly! #USATravel #TexasFood #SanAntonio
