The Childhood Excitement Jones Pet Shop Gave Me 🦜🏪💖
Back in the early 1980s, when I was just a kid, my mom worked as a professor at Peabody College and sometimes had to bring me along to work. While she taught her classes, I’d sit in her office and draw. 🖍️📚 But what I looked forward to most—after her workday ended—was our trip to Hillsboro Village! That neighborhood was full of wonderful shops: an ice cream parlor, T-shirt stores, and more. Yet nothing compared to Jones Pet Shop. There was an old, wise parrot there who’d always greet me with a cheerful, “Hello!” That simple interaction made my whole day. 🦜👋 Now, as a mom myself, it brings me so much joy to bring my own family to Fido—a café that now stands where that pet shop once was. Not only do I get to relive those childhood memories, but I also love looking around and seeing other families enjoying chocolate pancakes or delicious fries while their kids point at one of the silly drawings I made on the wall. 🥞🎨 The Village has changed a lot since I was young, but I’m so glad Fido kept the original pet shop sign up on the roof—a sweet nod to the past. Every time I come here to hang my artwork, it feels like coming home. I love spotting familiar faces and always look forward to meeting new ones, too. You know… it takes me right back to that beautiful feeling I had as a kid—standing at the end of a summer day, excited to visit an old bird in a pet shop. ☀️🧡 #NostalgicVibes #HillsboroVillage #FromJonesToFido #FamilyMemories #GoodOldDays #CoffeeAndCommunity #NashvilleLove #GenerationsOfJoy
