The Frick Collection reopens today after five years! ๐ผ๏ธโจ
Joining the hype! ๐ The Frick Collection is a famous art museum in New York ๐ฝ, part of The Museum Mile on the Upper East Side. ๐๏ธ The building was once the home of industrialist Henry Clay Frick (1849โ1919), and the collection comes from his private holdings. ๐๏ธ Known for its masterful oil paintings and stunning European decorative arts, itโs a must-visit! ๐จ๐ But from 2020 to 2025, it was closed for renovationsโand I was lucky enough to visit on reopening day (4/17)! ๐ The line on opening day was insanely long (see last two pics ๐ธ๐), but I actually had a class that brought us here, so we reserved tickets a month in advanceโno waiting for me! ๐๏ธ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐จ Not sure if the security staff were extra strict because it was their first day, but wow, they were intense! ๐ฎโโ๏ธ๐ซ No holding any clothing, no getting close to any art or furniture, and I even saw a classmate get warned for standing slightly near a glass window (just looking outside! ๐ช๐ณ). Super uncomfortable vibe. ๐ต They also strictly enforced the no-photo rule, so all my pics are from outside the building + the reception area before entering the collection. ๐ท๐ง The interior is absolutely dazzlingโopulent, intricate, and elegant, screaming "luxury" at every turn. ๐ฐโจ But as someone who frequents museums, one thing confused me: none of the artworks had labels. ๐ผ๏ธโ Not even basic info like title/artist/date/mediumโjust a 3-digit code you had to look up on your phone via their website. ๐ฑ๐ Maybe itโs to avoid wall labels ruining the aesthetic? But it feels less educational and more like a tourist attraction than a museum. ๐ค๐ท๏ธ Lastly! NYU students get in for FREE ๐๐, so once the crowds die down, itโs perfect for a little art-filled outing. ๐ฉโ๐จ๐ #nyu #newyorkuniversity #classicmeetsinnovation #artexhibition #forthecultured #newyorktravel #newyorklife #museum #exhibition
