The Jesus Light and Sunset at Dili's Cristo Rei, East Timor 🇹🇱
📍 Location: Cristo Rei 🚌 Transportation: Take Bus No. 12 to the final stop 💰 Cost:0.25 After getting off the bus, climb the stairs for about 15-20 minutes at a leisurely pace to reach the top. ❌ Note: No restrooms were found along the way. 🤕 Caution: The steps are uneven, so be careful—it's easy to trip (don’t ask how I know, my toes and knees are well aware). 🌏 In Brazil, Rio de Janeiro’s Corcovado Mountain is often referred to as "Christ the Redeemer Mountain" by locals. The iconic Christ statue atop the mountain has become a national symbol of Brazil. However, in Dili, the capital of East Timor, there is also a "Christ the Redeemer Mountain." The Cristo Rei of Dili stands on a cliff by the sea, with a posture similar to the Rio statue—arms outstretched, facing the ocean. 👉 The Christ statue is built on a mountain ridge, flanked by two beaches: Cristo Rei Beach and Dolok Oan Beach. These beaches are rare in Southeast Asia for their crystal-clear, glass-like waters, making them perfect for sunbathing or swimming in the pristine sea. 🧭 To reach the Jesus statue, you can start from Cristo Rei Beach and climb over 500 steps. Along the way, you’ll find bronze reliefs of Jesus depicting stories from the Bible. The statue in Dili stands 27 meters tall, only 3 meters shorter than the one in Rio. After visiting the statue, you don’t need to retrace your steps—simply take another path down to Dolok Oan Beach. #EastTimor #HiddenGem #BudgetTravel #CrystalClearSea
