The last stop of the Garden Route is Storms River
Port Elizabeth, the fourth-largest city in South Africa, is a coastal city with a harbor and a nearby elephant park. The city itself doesn’t have many attractions but serves as the last stop on the Garden Route and a transit point for travelers heading to Johannesburg. 💖 Things to Do: Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum A free art museum featuring mostly local artists from Port Elizabeth. The collection is not large but diverse in styles. It’s worth a visit if you’re in the area, but be cautious as the surrounding area can be a bit chaotic. Addo Elephant National Park Best accessed by car, located 43 km from the city center. If you’re traveling alone, joining a tour is the only option, but it may not be very cost-effective. 🚌 Transportation: Plettenberg Bay to Port Elizabeth Book your bus ticket online. On the day I traveled, only Intercape had an afternoon bus passing through. I boarded at the Shell petrol station on the N2 highway in Plettenberg Bay, which is 1.5 km from town. The ticket cost 350 R (about ¥140). The ticket said the bus would depart at 16:30, but it actually arrived at 17:30. The journey took 4 hours, and I arrived at the Intercape terminal at 336 Cape Road in Port Elizabeth at 21:30. A taxi to the city center was 7 km and cost 70 R (about ¥28). I used Uber directly. 🏡 Accommodation: 18 on Sherlock A large room with a double bed, private bathroom, TV, and mini-fridge. The room was newly renovated, and the facilities were in good condition. It’s located on a hill with a view of the harbor, just a 500-meter walk to the restaurant area. The neighborhood is relatively safe. 🥘 Dining: Groundfloor Café A café with an outdoor seating area. A large cappuccino costs 38 R (about ¥15), and the banana caramel South African pancake is also 38 R. It’s a good spot for a quick coffee or snack. Izakaya Arata A restaurant specializing in ramen and sushi. I ordered the pork neck ramen for 116 R (about ¥46). The taste was not very authentic; the noodles were thick and soft, and the pork was not tender enough, but it was satisfying. #AfricaTravel #SouthAfrica #PortElizabethTravel
