The Medici family's day and night, dawn and dusk
Medici Chapel Museum Google Map: Museo delle Cappelle Medicee Open Hours: 8:15 - 13:50 Ticket: โฌ10 (Credit card and cash accepted) Closed on the first, third, and fifth Mondays of the month, as well as the second and fourth Sundays. ๐๐๐ From Lonely Planet Italy: "The Medici family's pride is most vividly displayed in their family chapel. This is the final resting place of 49 family members, adorned with granite, marble, semi-precious stones, and some of Michelangelo's finest sculptures. Francesco I, Ferdinando I and II, Cosimo I, II, and III are all interred in the dark and imposing Cappella dei Principi Lorenzo de' Medici is buried in the elegant Sagrestia Nuova, which features Michelangelo's earliest architectural works.๐ค๐ค๐ค The sacristy also houses three of Michelangelo's most memorable sculptures (1520 - 1534): 'Dawn and Dusk' on the tomb of Duke Lorenzo of Urbino , 'Day and Night' on the tomb of Lorenzo's son Giuliano (note that the face of 'Day' is unfinished, while the sleeping young woman in the light represents 'Night'), and the 'Madonna and Child' on Lorenzo's tomb." The last two photos are from the adjacent Palazzo Medici Riccardi, but since they are also related to the Medici family, I've included them in this post. ๐๐ป๐ป โ ู(เนโขฬใ โขฬ)ูโง #Museum #Florence #ItalyTravel #Architecture
