The Most Beautiful Sunset and Night View Hike in Phoenix 🌄
Phoenix, a quintessential Midwestern American city, is characterized by its vastness and sparse population, which means it’s not cluttered with skyscrapers. The most stunning spot to catch the sunset and night view here is, surprisingly, on a mountain ⛰️. Piestewa Peak is the second highest point in the Phoenix Mountains area, following Camelback Mountain, with an elevation of 2610 feet. Compared to Camelback, Piestewa has a similar vertical height but is longer in length, making it less steep. Although it’s not as challenging as Camelback, this trail is by no means easy. It takes an average person about 45 minutes to an hour to ascend, but you’ll also encounter many trail runners who can reach the top in just 20 minutes. Because it’s located in the city, this trail is quite famous, and as a result, the summit can get very crowded. If you want to watch the sunset from here, it’s a good idea to start hiking an hour early. Sitting at the top, waiting for the sunset, watching the sun 🌞 slowly dip below the horizon, and seeing the city lights spread out 360 degrees at your feet 🌃 makes every bit of effort worthwhile. 💦 Things to Note: There’s no platform at the summit, just a lot of scattered rocks, so there’s not much space to stand. Plus, it can be quite windy at the top, and if you’re not visiting in the summer (hiking in Phoenix is not recommended during the summer), it can get quite cold. It’s advisable to bring a windbreaker for warmth as the temperature drops after dark. Of course, hiking shoes 🥾 and plenty of water are also essential, and a headlamp is recommended for the descent when it’s dark to see the path clearly.
