Our Lyft driver recommended this place when he dropped us off for our rental car because we said we wanted to do some hiking. (Side note, it was super helpful having a car, especially when we were only in town for a short time). Anyhow, this place used to be called Squa Mountain. So we looked it up and decided to head there instead of our other points of interest we had found on a Google search. This ended up being our favorite spot on our mini-vacation. There are so many trails to choose from and they're all free to hike. It was strange not paying a park fee. It was a popular place but it seemed the trails were so spread out that it was still peaceful. However, we were there on a weekday though and we're told by a mountain biker, that on the weekends it can get very crowded. We could see why because there are great trails for all levels of hikers. You can stay on flatter terrain or go on the trails with some steeper inclines. The trails are also well marked and not paved. We just loved hiking and hiking and hiking. I think we were there for a solid 4 hours and probably could have stayed longer but we did want to see other areas in and around Phoenix too. Have I mentioned that we loved this area?! Would definitely recommend and return here next time we are in the area to test out...
Read moreIf your not physically conditioned or don't hike very often I would caution you on this trail especially with the heat coming out. It's essentially a short hike, does not have crazy geographical changes but it's practically just climbing stairs the entire way to the top. There was a lot of people along the trail who you could tell were very physically in shape, so unless that's you, don't expect a brisk walk to the top.
I did Echo Canyon a few days prior to this, and I felt this trail was more difficult. However the heat might of been a factor, so I'm going to try this earlier in the day next time.
Also know there is limited parking at the bottom, and construction going on at the time of this review. I don't think you need hiking shoes for this but does not hurt. I would recommend bringing 2 liters of water especially if your doing this when it gets hot.
There is no fee to get in, does get busy even during week...
Read moreI had a great time hiking to the top of Piestewa Peak in Arizona. The sunset view from the peak was breathtaking. The trail was well maintained and had signs along the way that made for an easy and safe hike. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a great outdoor experience. Piestewa Peak is a very popular hiking destination and is known for its spectacular views of the surrounding city and desert landscape. The hike was a moderate difficulty, but with plenty of switchbacks and interesting rock formations to explore. The summit is a great place to watch the sunset and take in the beauty of the surrounding landscape. The sunset was absolutely stunning, with the sky turning a brilliant orange and pink and the city lights twinkling in the distance. The hike was definitely worth the effort, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great way to end a day...
