The Florence Foundling Hospital Museum (Ospedale degli Innocenti) is one of the earliest orphanages in European history. For six centuries since the 15th century, it has helped countless orphans and families.πππ The museum is structured around three perspectives: history, architecture, and art. The entrance connects to the historical exhibition area of the orphanage. After exiting the exhibition, visitors can proceed to the backyard to view the exterior architecture. Finally, ascending to the top floor reveals a dedicated space for artworks. The Foundling Hospital Museum, like the dome of the Florence Cathedral, is a design by the architectural master Filippo Brunelleschi. Its predecessor was a hospital completed in 1427. In 1445, it began to accept abandoned children. By the end of the 15th century, nearly a thousand children, mostly girls, had been sheltered here. In the following centuries, the number of abandoned female infants increased rapidly.β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ #Florence #FoundlingHospitalMuseum #Orphanage #FlorenceTravel #ObscureMuseum #NicheMuseum #MuseumsWorthVisiting
