The One and Only in the World - The Unique Mütter Museum 🏟😅👩⚕️
Bored with nowhere to go in winter? If you're up for something quirky and eerie, a visit to Philadelphia's Mütter Museum might just be the ticket—just don't bring the kids! 🚫👶 The Mütter Museum, a world-renowned and utterly unique medical museum, is dedicated to the collection, study, and education of medical anomalies, diseased organs, and skeletal specimens. Stepping inside is like entering a horror movie set; the exhibits are truly eye-opening and downright bizarre. You'll find a 20-centimeter-long horn growing out of someone's skull (Pic 1), conjoined twins, a tumor as big as a head on someone's neck, a colon as thick as a python (Pic 10), a 70-pound ovarian cyst... and even slices of Einstein's brain, revealing that his parietal lobe, responsible for mathematical ability and spatial reasoning, was about 15% larger than the average male's! 🧠✨ Each exhibit usually comes with a detailed description. Take Pic 10, for instance: this enormous colon belonged to a 29-year-old man suffering from congenital megacolon. Damage to the nerves in his large intestine made defecation extremely difficult (he'd suffer from constipation for a month or longer). As his condition worsened, his abdomen and colon swelled severely, ultimately leading to his demise. The autopsy revealed that his colon was a staggering 8 feet long and contained 40 pounds of feces! 💩😱 Oh, and here's a fun fact: the Mütter Museum is also a rather unconventional venue for weddings! Some medical professionals choose to tie the knot here (Pic 4). 💍👰♀️ Photography is generally prohibited inside the museum, except for Pic 2, which I managed to snap.
