The South African National Zoo in Pretoria

🦩The National Zoological Gardens, covering an area of 85 hectares, is located in Pretoria, the administrative capital of South Africa. It is under the jurisdiction of the National Research Foundation, which is affiliated with the South African Ministry of Science, Technology, and Culture. It is one of the largest zoos in the world. Pretoria is truly a predominantly Black city. However, the small district in Figure 2 has a somewhat European vibe, with many restaurants and a significant number of white people, making it relatively safe. The admission ticket is 100 rand per person, with parking at 30 rand. This zoo is a product of the last century. Although many facilities such as the aerial cable car, restaurants, and shops are now abandoned and look somewhat dilapidated, the zoo itself is incredibly large! It took me over two hours to walk around and see everything. Almost all the outdoor enclosures are designed with ecological displays, featuring numerous exotic tree species, streams, and large lawns. You can even see animals and plants from South America's Amazon and Australia. The zoo's size is comparable to that of the Beijing Zoo, but with fewer visitors and a much richer variety of plants, the experience is far better than that of the Beijing Zoo. The animals here are also well-fed, which is a significant advantage over the Beijing Zoo. The tiger and lion enclosures offer a feeding show by the staff at 14:30 in the afternoon. The aquarium is located near the main entrance, but it was closed on the day we visited. If you don't feel like walking, you can rent a golf cart to drive around the zoo. Many Black families can be seen having picnics and spending time with their children on the lawns, making it a popular weekend spot for locals.
