The Thousand Monk Meal in Mandalay, Myanmar π
Today is a Buddhist holiday in Myanmar, and I had the privilege to witness the remarkable "Thousand Monk Meal" at a monastery. In Theravada Buddhism, monks strictly adhere to the rule of no food after noon π. They eat only two meals per dayβone at 4 AM and another at 10 AM. Every morning at 10, a thousand barefoot monks walk in silent procession, solemnly carrying their alms bowls. Generous donors quietly place food into each monk's bowl as part of their spiritual offering π. In Myanmar, all men must become monks at least once in their livesβsome for just days or months, others for life. Adult monks wear deep red robes, while young novices dress in white. Standing under the dappled shade of monastery trees, I quietly observed and captured this sacred moment πΈ. #Myanmar #MonkLife #BuddhistTradition #Mandalay #SpiritualJourney
