The Art Deco Movement πβ¨ It was born in the 1920s and quickly spread across Europe and America, influencing design worldwide. π πβ¨ This style is characterized by its combination of the graceful lines of natural flora and fauna with the geometric elements of modern machinery. πΏπ¨It also incorporates Eastern aesthetics and artistic expressions like Japanese ukiyo-e. πΏπ¨ It's both symmetrical and simple, yet modern and luxurious. πβ¨ Art Deco was widely used not only in modern architecture but also in interior decoration and furniture design. π After learning about this, I was surprised to find out that Shanghai has the second-largest number of Art Deco buildings in the world, just after New York. πΏπ¨ In the 1930s, Shanghai had over 1,000 Art Deco-style buildings. ποΈ Some of the most iconic ones include the Peace Hotel, the International Hotel, and the Cathay Cinema. πβ¨ No wonder when I visited the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum, I felt a sense of dΓ©jΓ vu, as if I had been transported back to the famous (Shanghai's International Settlement) under the plane trees, with the old Western-style houses designed by Ladislav Hudec. πΏ πΏπ¨ #TokyoMetropolitanTeienArtMuseum πβ¨
