Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum - Japanese Garden — Attraction in Tokyo

I cannot believe I haven’t review it till now! This is one of my fave art galleries in Tokyo. Exhibitions aside, the building itself is an Art Deco gem with lush garden. Originally constructed in 1933, the building served as the residence of Prince Asaka Yasuhiko and his family. The interiors were designed by French artist Henri Rapin, with decorative glasswork by René Lalique. The main architect was Gondo Yukichi of the Imperial Household Ministry’s Works Bureau. We visited during the few weeks of the year the prince's and princess's art deco house is open. I was skeptical I'd find it interesting but it was really beautiful. If you're an art deco fan, this house was designed around the concept.

It needed timed tickets pre-purchased online. I suggest coming 20 minutes after your slot opens to avoid the mini rush. You can stay as long as you like.

I would not bother with the museum when the house is not open unless there was a special exhibit you were personally...

I found the museum quite by accident and once I had walked through the palace, I decided to explore the Japanese garden.

Although this is a small example of a Japanese garden, it awakens the spirit in full sun. I felt my batteries recharge whilst walking around here and my smile was beaming.
